Tiger Stadium

1000 visitors to Wide Open Detroit, huh?
Well, we figured that something big was in order
to thank you guys for checking us out.

What can we really say?

All kinds of memories are running through our heads.

As well as the uncertain future-

and the idea of a new beginning-

What runs through your heads?

Kaline, Trammell, Morris, Cobb, Sparky, Detroit, The Corner, Michigan Ave.,

Ernie, Left Field, The Bleachers, Hot Dogs, Beer, Peanuts, Nemos,

The Bird, Warning Track, Dugout, Super Bowl, Snoop Dogg,

Gibson, All Star Game, World Series, 1968, 1984, Briggs, Trumbull,

1620, Channel 50, Comerica, Illitch, Olympia, Right Field, Double Header,

We could go on, and on.

Were you a fan?

Do you remember freezing in the stands?

Ever go in the booth?

Even though She's wide open,

You're not walkin' through the turnstiles.

You're gonna need credentials,

if you think you're getting up in there!

Mystery Location # 2

I can't seem to figure out where the mystery location is...
I guess I'll have to read between the lines, get some sleep,

and maybe, more will be revealed.

Mystery Location

While all good people were asleep and dreaming...

Wide Open Detroit was beginning its day...

We can go without sleep to bring you...

Your daily dose of the D...

In living colour.

Is trying to figure out where we were making you hungry?

Want some ketchup on that dog?

Perhaps a slice will hit the spot better?

Nothing goes with pizza like suds, right?

Of course, you might need to get some balance up in you...

To help you figure it out, here's a hint...

No, its not the Station, but this shot was taken from our Mystery Location!

The History of Things #6

I found this on YouTube. It was shot in 8mm in the Fabulous Fifties.

Kwame's Plan

I breaks 'em off, I breaks 'em off yeah
I breaks 'em off, I breaks 'em off yeah
I breaks 'em off but I ain't speakin' about between the thighs
I'm talkin' about cockin a gauge in between your eyes
That'll make you drop to your knees cos you realize
that a gat will make any nigga civilized
Ol' buster ass nigga talkin' bullshit
Don't know that I'm the wrong nigga to fuck with
Get lit or hit up by the Kilstripper
A nigga that breaks em off proper-ly
Real G so don't doubt it
I'm the one who's doin it while these other niggas talk about it
And if motherfuckers come at me wrong
I straight put my .44 Desert Eagle to his motherfuckin' dome
And show him why they call me the notorious one
The name's Kwame Eastwood when I'm packin a gun
You don't believe me, well step up and give it a try
And if you die youse a buster cos real niggas don't die
But some still don't hear me though
You're too near me not to hear me, nigga yo
So now you know

Who's the man with the masterplan?
A nigga witta motherfuckin gun
Who's the man with the masterplan?
A nigga witta motherfuckin gun
Who's the man with the masterplan?
A nigga witta motherfuckin gun
Who's the man with the masterplan?
A nigga witta motherfuckin gun

Creating a Parking Lot

The History of Things # 5

Woodward Ave. looking south, 1938
This photo was taken from a building that "aint there no more."
Imagine that?
We can see some familiar landmarks
like the Fox, with an old sign,
St.John's Episcopal Church,
and the lonely Broderick Tower.
Maybe not so lonely back then, huh?

Here's a scan of an image that I shot last year-
from the Motown building.

While were at it,
here's a shot of the Broderick tower
taken from the David Whitney Building.

Here's part of the Motown Building that
we never really got to see-
You know, until they tore the Sanders side down.

I never got a picture of the Sanders sign-
Imagine, a local Detroit photographer
never capturing a significant piece of our history
as the city tore it down in preperation for a dirt field.
So, I got this picture online
to help make this post a little more professional.

Well, this post has taken a few turns,
it started out as a history lesson
and has somehow escalated into me- aimlessly typing
and uploading photos, (some of them stolen)
as well as pointing out some of my character defects

and our city's need for more parking.

The Darkness Within

In a room lit only by a digital clock, its never darker than it is at one-eleven.

1930's Train Station

Monday June 19th 2006 Train Station

Whatever happened to Kwame's plan?

So here's a couple of images
from our recent trip into the depot-

...Time on my hands.

It Just Looks Wrong

Shady business dealings and unpaid bills aside, I don't think this is something we want to see in Hockeytown. Of course Pete will do something to throw his team's capture of the Cup in Mike and Bill's faces, but we must presume the Spirit is safe. The team at Wide Open Detroit had hoped for a more uplifting 100th post, but hey, we can't control the tide...we can only ride the waves.
